Who can get a Danish bank account?

Working or studying in Denmark? Or in the country for any other reason? In most cases, you'll need a Danish bank account and NemKonto to, e.g., receive payments like your salary and public sector payments (such as tax refunds or social welfare payments).

What you need to know.

MitID

MitID is a personal key you need to access digital services that you need to open your Danish bank account. You can obtain your MitID by going, in person, to a Citizen Service Centre.

NemKonto

A NemKonto is a normal bank account that you assign as your NemKonto. Everyone in Denmark needs to assign a bank account as their NemKonto to receive payments from Danish public institutions. Some private enterprises can also make payments to your NemKonto.

Are you a refugee from Ukraine?

If you are Ukrainian and have entered Denmark as a refugee, you can get a free bank account by signing up with your MitID. Simply select 'Ukraine' as your country of citizenship during the sign-up process, and you'll be fast-tracked in your request to open an account. No passport or photo ID is required – only a residence permit and your MitID.
